No f) Do you support requiring parental consent before an abortion is performed on a minor?
Yes g) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for abortion procedures?
No h) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
In a nation like ours, with a long tradition of religious liberty, we have learned to respect others, even when we believe their religious views are completely wrong. As a supporter of religious liberty, I believe we should respect people's deeply felt beliefs around abortion. And the government should not interfere.

a) Do you support limits on the following types of contributions for state candidates?

Yes 1) Individual
Yes 2) Political Action Committee
Yes 3) Corporate

Yes c) Do you support requiring full and timely disclosure of campaign finance information?
Yes d) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
No e) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
Virginia ranks 47th among the 50 states in government integrity, according to the nonpartisan Center for Public Integrity. Among the reasons for our deplorable ranking are our gerrymandered districts and the lack of sensible rules regarding campaign financing. I would work to address both issues, if elected.

Yes h) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage?
Lowering taxes to promote economic growth is not something I strongly support, but I would not rule out circumstances where lowering taxes could be an effective tool. Reducing regs on the private sector--in certain situations, this could be a good idea. But in general I would say no. I don't have a position on direct assistance to those facing foreclosure.
Yes a) Do you support the national Common Core State Standards initiative?
b) Do you support a merit pay system for teachers?
No c) Is the tenure process for public school teachers producing effective teachers?
No d) Should parents be allowed to use vouchers to send their children to any school?
Yes e) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
Yes f) Do you support the state government providing college students with financial aid?
Yes g) Should illegal immigrants who graduate from Virginia high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
I strongly support quality public education for all. Whether a merit pay system is an effective approach, I am not yet prepared to say. I support state funding for charter schools as long as those schools are part of the public schools system.

No b) Do you support state funding for the development of traditional domestic energy sources (e.g. coal, natural gas, oil)?

Yes e) Do you support government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
Yes f) Do you support increased regulations of the hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") industry?
One of my main reasons for running is to get effective action in the General Assembly on climate change. We must move away from dirty fossil fuels, toward clean energy alternatives as rapidly as possible.
Yes a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Yes b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
No c) Should citizens be allowed to carry concealed guns?

Yes e) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
f) Do you support monetary limits on damages that can be collected in malpractice lawsuits?
Yes g) Do you support allowing doctors to prescribe marijuana to their patients for medicinal purposes?
I don't know what is meant by commercial health insurance reform. And I am not sure about limits on damages in malpractice lawsuits.
Yes a) Do you support same-sex marriage?
Yes b) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Virginia's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes c) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Virginia's anti-discrimination laws?
d) Other or expanded principles:
I would work to make Virginia's government work for the people, not Big Money. I would do this by working to pass meaningful ethics reform, not the fig leaf passed by the General Assembly in the last session. I would work for a government that adequately regulates the Dominion Power monopoly, rather than Dominion having our government at its beck and call. I would also work for legislation to end gerrymandering and to reform how our election campaigns are financed. And this: work to institute a wise and vigorous response to the challenge of climate change.
